Local Genie is an AI-powered, multimodal assistant designed to simplify one of life’s most complex decisions: choosing where to live, work, or visit.

Role

UX Designer

Tools & Skills

UI Design, Figma, Excalidraw, Prototyping, Cross functional collaboration

Duration

8 weeks

Overview

Choosing where to live shouldn’t take hours of tab-switching

Choosing where to live or visit is harder than ever. Information is fragmented across maps, property listings, review platforms, and data dashboards, while generic assistants provide shallow, one-time answers without meaningful context. This leaves people spending hours piecing things together, overlooking important details, and ultimately falling back on word-of-mouth to make major life decisions.

Over the course of eight weeks, our team was tasked with collaborating, designing, and developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that could be pitched to potential stakeholders.

Discover

How might we help people make confident decisions about where to live, with information they can actually trust?

User interviews were conducted of people who have had experience relocating, and here is what we found.

Key research stats

We analyzed the interviews and pain points, then matched them against the features our Product Managers envisioned which help to shape our priorities

Ideation

Lo-fi and Mid-Fi Wireframes

Designed early screens around the PMs’ priorities, then worked with backend engineers to pressure-test what was realistic which then helped narrow what screens to prioritize for our MVP.

Takeaways

What building this taught me

Throughout this experience, I’ve had the pleasure of working in a cross-functional environment, collaborating closely with engineers and product managers to bring this vision to life. Working alongside experienced designers allowed me to sharpen my research methodology and technical execution.

Moving forward, I’m eager to explore how AI-driven personalization could further refine these recommendations to make them feel even more tailored to a user’s immediate context and intent. This project reinforced my commitment to minimalist information architecture to provide users with the best and efficient experience possible.
